You don't have to be convinced of the need for competent communication skills. By the time you have gotten to this class, you know enough about the business environment to appreciate the critical role that communication plays in the contemporary organization. You are also aware of the role communication will play in helping you secure a job, be successful at work, or even communicate with your spouse or significant other. This course is designed to help you in your quest to become a better communicator.

The study of communication is important because communication is such a pervasive part of any organization and because it is so critical for achieving organizational goals.  In fact, most managers spend the vast majority of their workday in some form of verbal communication.

The communication process begins with a stimulus. On the basis of your unique knowledge, experience, and viewpoints, you filter, or interpret, the stimulus and formulate the message you wish to communicate. The next step is to select a medium of transmission for the message. Finally, the message reaches its destination. If it is successful, the receiver picks it up as a source of communication and provides appropriate feedback to you. Thus the very important need for a course about communication.
