Security is hardly a new idea. Since the beginning of society, security of some kind has been necessary to protect mankind against threats from nature, creatures, and of course, humans themselves. Security has caused mankind to seek out a wide variety of psychological, physical, moral, and religious solutions to their fears (real and imagined). What is private security? Private security has had a difficult time overcoming the "guard" label, the label that make one think of an elderly retired person with a pot belly, a time-clock key and big gun. Private security is much more. As you will learn, security is a sophisticated and complex industry that defies a simple definition. A common definition for the term private security is "individual and organizational measures and efforts (as distinguished from public law enforcement agency efforts) that provide protection for persons and property." It also describes business enterprises that provide services and products to achieve protection. This course will help you learn about such things as loss
